Walkabout #4: Sugar House Group 2

Sugar House is a beautiful area.  There were many very tall and old trees around the neighborhoods, which suggests that the houses are old and historic.  There was a clear organization of districts which made navigation very easy.  The districts in Sugar House from1700 S to 2100 S and 700 E to 1700 E are Westminster College district, shopping/food/entertainment district at 1300 E 2100S with Barns & Noble, Cinemark Movies 10, and restaurants, and the historical district at 2100 S and 1100 E with Sputnik and Monument.  Sugar House is a very historical part of Salt Lake City.  The Utah Penitentiary used to be where Sugar House Park is now.  The location of Barns and Noble was where the Sugar Mill was located. 

 

The two major nodes in Sugar House were at the intersection of 2100 S/1300 E and 2100 S/1100 E.  Since 1300 E is such a major street, the intersection at 2100 S gateways to Sugar House Park,  a gas station shopping and food buildings, and leads straight to Westminster College one way and Interstate 80 the other way.  The main paths of Sugar House were 2100 S, which ran parallel to the Park and historical district, 1300 E along Westminster and the Park and I-80, 1100 E to the entertainment/food district, and 1700 S which provided easy access to all the neighborhoods.  The Landmarks of Sugar House were Westminster College, Wasatch Hollow Park, Fairmont Park, Hidden Hollow, and Sugar House Park.  The edges were 700 E, 1700 E, and I-80. 

 

The people living in Sugar House ranged from college student income to fairly wealthy.  Most of the houses were of middle-class price range-- small and old but pricy due to the location.  Almost every lawn was groomed, making these neighborhoods very aesthetically pleasing.  Many elderly people lived in the neighborhood as well as families with children.  Sugar House seems to be a very family oriented and safe place.  Every one we talked to was very friendly and willing to listen.
