Individual Post: Nostalgia (Tillie McInnis)

My group never went on a walkabout around Nostalgia, but I thought Nostalgia was worth mentioning. Nostalgia is a coffee house located on 100 South between 200 & 300 East. Inside, there are large wooden tables and chairs along with two couches. There is also a table full of flyers and business cards showing things happening in the community along with a bulletin board in the back. Also, the walls are covered with artwork put up by a local artist, but the art changes constantly showing people different local pieces and artists (most of which are for sale).

What I like about Nostalgia is that it is a fantastic study spot. You can sprawl out for hours and get everything you need to done. But Nostalgia is versatile in that it is still a social place, it's one of the few coffee houses that I find has a good balance of a studying atmosphere as well as a place to get coffee with friends. Another interesting quality about Nostalgia is its location. Nostalgia is located near central downtown and is not too far from Pioneer park. Due to this location, there are a variety of people that visit Nostalgia as well as a variety of passerby. Homeless people wander by, businessmen, students, people who live near by, etc. Inside, nostalgia is not designed for one type of person, it's a space for leisure, schoolwork, conversations, chess, and that good ol' caffeine. I've met people at Nostalgia of all ages with varying backgrounds with different interests, jobs, and education.

Also, Nostalgia is a place that people specifically travel to. Many people who go to Nostalgia drive from many different areas of Salt Lake to use what it has to offer. Nostalgia also has decent prices which widens the demographic that come in. What I think also adds to the appeal of Nostalgia for people in there 20s, is that Nostalgia sells beer, so one can enjoy a beer and do work without having to be in a bar or restaurant. Very few coffee houses have the license to sell beer.

Nostalgia has been very successful in their overall appeal to the public because it's a place everyone usually enjoys for whatever personal reason.
